Orgain Organic Protein – What Is It?

Orgain Organic Protein ReviewI know what you’re thinking. Protein is protein, right? You get that we have to review pre workout supplements, testosterone boosting supplements, and fat burners because they all use different ingredients in their secret and not so secret formulas to help you accomplish your goals. But protein? Really? Well, you’d be surprised at how many different kinds of options there are. Most of the protein powders you come across are primarily made of whey protein, and even within that category, there are differences. But what about people who want plant based protein? When it comes to this category, the differences get even bigger.

Anybody that knows me knows I am a Costco addict.  While I like whey protein, plant based proteins agree with me better. So I was thrilled to try Orgain Organic Protein I picked for under $30 bucks at Costco. Do you know how hard it is to find a vegan protein that tastes good?

Orgain Organic Protein is an organic, plant-based protein powder for vegans or anyone who wants to move toward a more plant-centered diet. These days, you don’t have to be a vegan to recognize the health benefits of a plant-centered diet. Every time you turn around, there’s a new study showing that eating a clean diet rich in plant derived nutrients and low in animal based and processed foods yields the most healthy results. For that reason, we’re looking at Orgain Organic Protein to see if it’s a viable protein powder option.

What’s In Orgain Organic Protein?

As we stated earlier, most protein powders are made from whey which comes from milk. The protein in Orgain Organic Protein ReviewOrgain Organic Protein comes from:

  • Organic Brown Rice
  • Organic Sprouted Chia
  • Organic Hemp
  • Organic Pea

I wasn’t able to find information about whether or not this provides a complete protein profile, which is a concern when you’re going plant-based. A 2 scoop serving provides 150 calories, 21 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, and 5 grams of dietary fiber.

Honestly, the only thing that would impress me more if it was made up of the protein of ground up cricket I saw on Sharktank the other night!! Just kidding!

How Does Orgain Organic Protein Taste?

Orgain Organic Protein Review 4From almost all accounts, Orgain Organic Protein tastes pretty good. It comes in 2 flavors – Creamy Chocolate Fudge and Sweet Vanilla Bean. Which one you choose depends mostly on what you want to mix it with. If you’re using water or a plain milk substitute like Almond or Coconut milk, you might want to go with the chocolate. If you’re mixing it into your fruit smoothing, the Vanilla Bean might be your best best. The jury is still out on how gritty Orgain Organic Protein is. I’ve heard some users say it’s nice and smooth, while others find it to be gritty enough to say so.  I would say you probably want to use a blender when you can, rather than a shaker cup. How does Orgain Organic Protein taste to me?  For a vegan protein, I was amazingly surprised how well it blended and I did not find it gritty.  While I was expecting an In-Your-Face molten chocolate fiesta, the Chocolate Orgain is almost subtle.  TIP- Add a tablespoon or PB2 Peanut Butter Protein for a nice combination of flavors.

Our Orgain Organic Protein Conclusion

Whey protein is what most people will use. It’s what they know. It’s what they’ve always used. It’s what they always will use. But for lots of people, whey is not an option. This is true for vegans, for some lactose-intolerant people, and for those who are trying to turn to a more plant-based, organic lifestyle. I will probably use whey protein too, but concerns over heavy metals possibly in whey protein has moved me to add organic protein powders in the mix. problem is, most non-whey protein options turn out gritty and nasty tasting. This seems not to be the case with Orgain Organic Protein. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response from customers regarding both the taste and the effectiveness, this is a product worth looking into. If you’re happy with your whey protein, keep using it. But if you think a plant-based alternative would suit your needs better, Orgain Organic Protein is a good choice.
