Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy – What Is It?

How many pre workout powders have you tried? I lost count after about 27. They all promise the world, and lots of them deliver to some extent, but it seems like everyone is still searching for that one brand that does it all. Part of that is that everyone wants something different, so one guys perfect formula leaves another guy lacking. Some people like to feel all jacked up for a workout. Other guys hate that stim-y tweaked out feeling. So the search is never-ending. But don’t worry, that’s why we’re here – to help you make sense of what’s out there, so you can make the right choices for yourself.

Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy is kind of a hybrid powder. It’s used mostly as a pre workout drink mix, but in reality, it’s for any time in the day. It’s promised benefits are broad enough that they can be seen as helpful in a number of circumstances – pre workout of course, post workout recovery, morning wake up support, or mid-afternoon focus booster. So let’s have a look at what’s in this multipurpose concoction, so you know whether or not it fits your needs.

Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy Ingredients

The Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy formula is made up of two fairly simple and straightforward blends. There’s the Amino Blend and the Energy Blend.

Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy Review 2The Amino Blend is basically a long list of free form amino acids, including those that stimulate nitric oxide production as well as branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) for muscle recovery support. The L-Arginine is there as a pre cursor to nitric oxide for that vascularity and pump you want from your pre workout. The L-Tyrosine, L-Histidine, L-Lyseine, and L-Glutamine are BCAAs there to help build your muscle back up after your tough workout breaks it down.

The Energy Blend is there to boost both energy and focus. The amount of caffeine per 2 scoop serving is 100 mg, which is pretty mild compared to a lot of pre workout formulas. There are two advantages to this. First of all, it means you don’t have to worry about jitters or crashes if you don’t want to. And secondly, it means you can tailor your dose up if you want more energy or depending on what you’re using it for.

How To Use Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy

Again, Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy is extremely flexible. ON makes a few recommendations as to how to use it, depending on the level of intensity you’re looking for. For waking up in the morning, they recommend 2-4 scoops mixed with water, for pre workout energy 4-6 scoops, for post workout recovery, it’s back to 2-4 scoops, and for that afternoon pick me up, it’s also 2-4 scoops. The idea is that you can experiment and find what works for you.

Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy Review 3

Optimum Nutrition is a well-established, highly respected mainstream company with a whole lot of customers, which means there are tons of reviews available for most of their products. Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy is no exception, and the vast majority of them are positive. Here are a few examples:

  1. “Works great, super cheap, amazing taste, you can’t beat this product!”
  2. “The best supplement I have ever taken for energy!”
  3. “Another high quality product from ON, as usual. Clean energy and phenomenal flavors. Highly recommended.”

What do I think of the Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy?  I am not a fan personally.  The “Concord Grape” could not taste any more artificial.  I know it has caffeine and Beta Alanine which I am used to, but I did feel a little jittery which I did not expect.  There are other Preworkouts such as Instant Knockout or NitroCut I would consider instead.  As popular as Optimum Nutrition’s Protein is, I expected a better quality products.

Benefits of Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy

  • It comes in tons of great flavors.
  • You can adjust the level of caffeine to what works for you.
  • It’s made by Optimum Nutrition, a well-respected company.
  • Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy reviews are mainly positive.
  • It’s cheap if you only use the smaller serving size.

Drawbacks of Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy

There are lots of complaints that it just doesn’t give you much of an energy boost.
If you want more of a boost, you have to take 2 or 3 servings at once, which means a tub could be gone fairly quickly.

Where to Buy

You can get Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy online or you can pick it up at GNC. You can find the 30 serving tub for as little as $20 and the 65 serving tub for under $40. Costco has the 70 serving for $34.99, but I could have sworn I picked it up for under $30,
